What’s better than enjoying your favorite movie at the highest volume on your cinema system so the whole room vibrates? The downside is that it can be a bit of a bad mood if you get the urge to watch a movie at night. Then a pair of proper headphones is needed and today’s test of the Trust GXT 383 Dion 7.1 may actually be the solution.
Simulated surround sound in 7.1 can often be anything but pleasant. It often feels too weak in the base or that the surround effects do not really appear where they should be. I have been testing the Trust GXT 383 Dion 7.1 headphones for a while now and I am really impressed with these headphones.
The supplied box is connected via USB and the optical audio socket on your Xbox One, PS4 or PC and the result is pure sound; down to the smallest detail. The base is many times stronger than on the Trust Ironn GXT 430, which still has the same size of elements (50mm) and a fairly large base – but it is still not enough. On the Trust GXT 383 Dion 7.1, the base is enough and will be left over.
The headphones are surprisingly easy to wear and comfortable during long sessions by, for example, The Division 2. Here the headphones really come into their own as it is important to hear exactly where the enemy is shooting at you.
On the cord there is a control box where you can set the game and chat volume manually – without having to go in and change your console settings – which is very convenient. Here you can also turn the microphone on and off. You can also fold this into the headphones when you are not using it. Very flexible compared to having to pick it on and off or that it sits there all the time and is inflexible in the way.
I have tested Trust GXT 383 Dion 7.1 on in games and movies and the sound quality paired with the surround effect works flawlessly for both. Started one of my favorite UHDs for picture and sound reference, Mortal Engines and believe me it will be a sound experience beyond the ordinary!
Plantronics Rig 600LX, which are specially made for Xbox, is my starting point for a couple of really good tricks and the Trust GXT 383 Dion 7.1 challenges them in terms of sound quality – but they have no chance in agility. The Trust headphones are connected via cable to your console and thus, if you have the distance that our test rig has between the console and the sofa, the length of the cables is not enough.
Since the Xbox for some strange reason does not support lures via USB, you must also connect your control to the box, so that you get the sound to the mic. There will be a lot of cables and the freedom will be quickly threaded and complicated. Therefore, there are absolute advantages to using the optical-audio output, but I also see many advantages in being able to sit back and enjoy my favorite movie instead of having to move the console because it saves on cable length. With the price tag of close to a thousand bucks, they cost as much as the many times more flexible Plantronics RIG 600LX, but then have the advantage that they become versatile with both USB and optical connection to more consoles.
In summary, the Trust GXT 383 is Dion 7.1 very affordable headphones, with the big minus that there are many cables that are a little too short and cumbersome for the set to feel completely comfortable. So therefore it will not be a must, but a clear recommendation.
